A large and important French 18th century Louis XV period Tortoiseshell and ormolu Boulle cartel clock signed Le Faucheur, A Paris. The clock is raised on its original display shelf with an exceptional curved tapered design with a stunning scrolled foliate ormolu mount at the base, a striking pierced central seashell mount, and beautiful richly chased maidens heads at each side with feathers in their hair all set on a masterfully inlaid brass and tortoiseshell background. The clock above is raised by most elegant elaborately scrolled foliate feet with finely detailed designs leading along the scalloped shaped front and to the central smooth cabochon. At the center is one large door retaining its original glass pane with an exceptional pierced ormolu mount of a beautiful maiden seated on a daybed and framed within a fine mottled ormolu border and stunning intricately detailed brass inlaid flowers and leaves set on a tortoiseshell background. The door opens to reveal the sensational ormolu clock face with impressive and extremely decorative foliate designs and its original fitted enameled hour and minute plaques with Roman and Arabic numbers and fine foliate hands. Inside, the pendulum hangs above a magnificent checkered floor and in front of additional masterfully inlaid brass foliate designs. Each side also retains its original glass panes. Above an impressive foliate band in a rich satin and burnished finish is the stunning top crown with a charming cherub draped in a flowing fabric feeding a dolphin. All original gilt throughout.
