1974 “Gens Eonian” Abstract Aquatint Print by Robert C. Ray

A 1974 aquatint print by the American artist Robert C. Ray (1926-2020). Titled Gens Eonian, this abstract work features an array of biomorphic and organic shapes in various shades of brown. Displayed in a black wooden frame, the print is signed and dated to the lower right and titled to the lower left.

Born in Elwood, Indiana, Ray attended the John Herron Art School in Indianapolis. After spending time abroad in Spain and Italy in 1953, he studied under Hans Hoffman in Provincetown, Massachusetts at Hoffman’s School of Fine Art. Ray was also a writer and poet with several published books. In addition to being an artist, Ray also ran an interior decorating business in Indianapolis.
